My name is Jim Jeffries, and I created MotoDude because of my love for Motorcycles, or anything with two wheels. Number one priority, preserving the Glory Day’s of Motocross. Sort of a history lesson for some, a blast from the past for others. I’m no journalist, so please excuse any bad grammar, but I’m trying…

Growing up in Southern California in the 70′s were good times, it also helped having a neighbor own a motorcycle shop, Crowell’s Cycles in Inglewood. In fact Ed Crowell took me to my first motorcycle race, the 1974 Hopetown GP on my Carabela 125, I didn’t do very well, but it was an experience of a life time.

Here I am at Indian Dunes, 1972 aboard Ed Crowell’s OSSA, which was set up for Desert racing

Ascot was very popular living in the South Bay, even if you didn’t race, everyone went to hang out. It was a chance seeing top local pros up close, and do some serious bench racing. Many top pros back in the day made a living at racing local night motocross, Ascot, Corona, OCIR, Irwindale, Indian Dunes, and Lyons were just a few…This is me racing 250 Novice class on my OSSA Phantom.

I raced BMX in the early 80′s, and my cousin Donny Jones was a test rider for “BMX action” magazine. Here we are testing a side hack for Bicycling magazine, this was shot at the Redondo Beach BMX track (1975).

There was a period when I got out of motorcycles completely, and decided Mountain bike racing was where I wanted to venture, I was wrong…

Soon after my Mountain biking stint, I dabbled in Vintage Motocross (mid 90′s) with my restored 1974 OSSA Phantom. I had so much fun, this was also a time when the only organization was AHRMA, now we have Calvmx and ARX here in SoCal.

Once my two Son’s were old enough to compete, we started racing District 37 grand prix events, then we all got back into play riding in the Desert. But after a long lay off of racing, and once I turned 50, I’m back at it with the SoCal Old Timers Club, 50 amateur class #511…Good Times!
